Perhaps the Best I Have Ever Smoked

Last night I received my first box of Encores and so, after a quick dinner, I retired to my easy chair and lit up what proved to be not just a cigar, but a revelation. I have always enjoyed La Glorias so I expected quality, but this was simply amazing! This is clearly one of the best, if not the best, cigars I have ever smoked, irrespective of country of origin. Beautifully made, this wonderful robusto provided rich creamy smoke, full flavor without any bitterness or unpleasant aftertaste (in fact, the aftertaste was almost as pleasant as the taste) and, overall, a wonderful smoking experience. If this is E.P. Carrillo's first cigar, I can't wait to see what comes next!

So a while back Ernesto gave Kevin (Buttheads) and myself something to try. He said it was not quite ready yet. I scratched my head. Then Kevin goes to the RTC and picks up a couple sticks of the final product. Wow and Wow. Not my El Rico Habano and Wow such complex flavors. That was after one stick. Well my box is in and I'll check back latter with a follow up...Enjoy the cigar guys. Now I have two favorite smokes. Ernesto, I need another favorite to finish out the day. DJ
E P Carillo Encore....At Last !!

The long awaited Carillo cigar, the Encore, is finally here. The smoke is a toro size,it is very firm and heavy in the hand, consisting of Nicaraguan and Dominican tobaccos with 2 to 5 years of age. The wrapper is Ecuadoran, grown in limited quantities. The wrapper is light brown, velvety smooth and slightly shiny, with almost invisible seams. The bunching is excellent, the cap is clean and cuts cleanly. This is not an inexpensive cigar, but I think it will be worth the price.
The pre-light is full of nuances of rich mature tobacco with aromas of honey and cedar. The flavors are of sweet tobacco and a clean taste of light earth, the draw is medium firm. I spent several minutes just experiencing it,there were such good flavors and aromas.
The first third begins with a blast of cedar, pepper and earth,a smooth rich tobacco flavor and a totally delightful aroma of nutty, almost cashew essence, toasted oak and gentle fine leather. I am instantly reminded of the aromas of the old La Gloria Cubana from the late 80's and early 90's. WOW! What a treat! My mouth is watering.
The second third stays very rich and full tasting, more fine leather, toasted oak, cedar, and that delightful nutty aroma. The finish is very clean, with a lightly lingering taste of mature tobacco, with almost a velvet mouth feel. The ash is light gray, almost white, and firm.I am astonished by the depth of flavor in this smoke,it is a very young cigar.
The final third gets a bit creamy, the intensity builds slightly, and the aromas are very compelling. The taste is almost chewy, the finish is still surprisingly clean, absolutely no bitterness or ashy taste at all. The burn is very even all the way to the end. It is sad when I have to put this down, the whole experience has been excellent.
I am convinced this cigar will improve with a little age.It is terrific now,but I will not revisit it for several months,it will be awesome in 6 months to a year. I hope you have the patience to wait,it will be worth it. I recently smoked a 14 year old La Gloria Churchill I had saved from 1995,it was incredible.Trust Ernesto to deliver a top notch product. He and his family can be very proud.
Like it has always been with Ernesto...Fabuloso otra vez

I have known Ernesto for over 10 years and he has always treated me with such respect and kindness..I am a no one of consequence but a smoker of cigars like everyone else who has written about the new cigar Ernesto has made...
I was lucky enough to bump into him again at Mikes Cigars when he was having his debut of the EPC cigar and as always it was a pleasure not only to meet and talk with him but smoke his new cigar..it was tremendous. I purchased a box and have enjoyed each one a bit more as i discover new aromas each puff i take...Thank you Ernesto for another wonderful cigar!!!

As a fan of LGC, I was eagerly awaiting the arrival of the EP Carrillo (EPC) at my local tobacconist. Unfortunately, the cigar arrived while I was just getting over a cold, so I chose to wait until my full taste for cigars had returned. Boy, was I glad that I waited! The first thing that strikes you about the EPC is its construction. In short, it's a beautiful cigar. Smooth with subtle texture (thanks to minimal veins) and seamless (well, there is a seam, but you're hard-pressed to find it). A few draws of the unlit EPC indicate good things to come, both in terms of flavor and draw. After admiring the beautiful Ecuadorian wrapper, it was time to light it. Do yourself a favor and treat this like your favorite Habano - skip the lighter and use a cedar strip to light this cigar. The craftsmanship and beauty of the EPC almost demand it. After lighting the cigar and smoking for about a half hour, I realized that this cigar is what cigar smoking is all about. Squarely in the medium body category, the EPC's blend is full flavored. There are hints of spice (pepper, but not overpowering) and a creamy finish (buttery, oatmeal-like taste). The cigar draws and burns smoothly, and the smoke hangs in the air with an aroma as appealing as the cigar itself. There are many cigars on the market today that tout themselves as being "Cubanesque", though very few, if any, hit the mark. The EPC, although not marketing itself in this manner, easily hits the Cuban bullseye. En pocas palabras, este cigarro es una obra maestra para todas las edades.
Fist Cigar Smoked.

Smoking this morning as I open our shop here in Austin, TX. Our rep Jason dropped one off on his visit yesterday and I couldn't wait until this morning to try this great looking cigar. Worth the wait, solid construction, sweet aroma, hints of earthiness, leather and cedar. A great medium body cigar with full flavor. Can't wait until we bring them in the shop.
